USS Daniel Boone (SSBN-629), Lafayette class
Stock Number: YKM-35016 Price: $65.00
The USS Daniel Boone (SSBN-629) was one of the original "41 for Freedom" Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarines. SSBN-629 was a Lafayette Class FBM. The Lafayette Class was designed to carry the larger Polaris A-2 missile and was able to easily upgrade to the Polaris A-3 or Poseidon C-3. All of the Lafayette / Ben Franklin Class FBM went through extensive upgrades during the 1970s to carry the bigger missiles. The Lafayette Class shared the same hull as the follow-on Benjamin Franklin class SSBN. The Lafayette carried her forward dive planes higher on the sail than the Ben Franklins. There were other minor differences such as the Lafayettes did not get towed-array sonars till very late in their service lives.
The Yankee Modelworks kit of the USS Daniel Boone (SSBN-629) is a 1960s version of the Lafayette Class of FBM. The kit has a one-piece resin hull, white metal, and photo-etch details. A detailed instruction set and decals are included with the kit. The kit is a easy build and highly recommended for the inexperienced resin kit model.
